What Seachem Prime is used for

Use as a water conditioner when starting an aquarium or adding or replacing water.

Dosage and water volume

Base reference: 5 ml per 200 litres. For a partial water change, use the replacement-water volume unless the current label directs otherwise.

For normal water-change use, enter the amount of new water being added. If adding directly to the aquarium, follow the label and base the dose on total aquarium volume.

  • Normal water conditioning: 5 ml per 200 litres — Use when starting the aquarium or adding or replacing water.
  • High chloramine: 10 ml per 200 litres — Use only when the high-chloramine direction on the current label applies.
  • Emergency maximum — up to 5× normal dose: 25 ml per 200 litres — Emergency nitrite detoxification only; this is not a routine dose.

How to use

  • Best added to new water first.
  • If added directly to the aquarium, base the dose on total aquarium volume.
  • If temperature is above 30°C and chlorine and ammonia are low, the manufacturer recommends a half dose.

  • For a normal water change, calculate using the replacement-water volume.
